Youth Ministry

(Grades 6-12)

United Parish of Bowie Youth
    Group

Our goal is to create an informal environment where students and the adults who work with them will know God through the development of authentic relationships and community service opportunities. We'll worship together and explore faith and life while we share food and fun times in community. From hikes and amusement parks to feeding the hungry and serving the homeless, we'll ask questions, seek to follow Christ and grow on our own journey of faith.

To that end, we meet twice a month on Sunday after the worship service.

First Sunday of the Month:

Activity or Service Project (alternating months)

  • All projects and activities will be picked by the youth during youth meetings and will include a stop for lunch on the way (bring $5).

Third Sunday of the Month:

Youth Group Meeting - 12:30 to 2 pm

  • End of the service - 12:30 Hanging Out and Lunch Prep
  • 12:30 to 1: Lunch and Connecting time (Parents to supply lunch)
  • 1 to 2: Program Time (Sometimes we'll watch a Nooma video to help initiate discussion, other times we'll worship, study scripture, debrief the last service project, play a game, be surprised!)

In addition:

  • We also hope to encourage youth to be involved in the life of the congregation and in church leadership (volunteering in children's ministry, assisting in worship, attending and helping at church events, singing in the choir, etc.).
  • Youth group will be designed for youth from 6th to 12 grade with the hope that the program will grow in the future into a separate middle school and high school group.
  • We are always looking for faithful, committed adults to work directly with the students… you don't have to have all the answers, but you do need to be willing to walk through the questions.
  • Parents will usually be able to take more of a supporting role (bringing food, providing transportation as needed, etc.)
