Committees of the United Parish

As a union Church in the Reformed tradition, we believe that God has called the members of the United Parish of Bowie both to be and to do. That dual calling is represented in our mission statement:

United in Christ: Our Mission To Serve

We believe the church is the body of Christ in the world. Every member and friend of the church is a vital part of the ministry. We've organized into committees to carry out the ministry of the church. It is important as we move forward to work together to discern the direction of the ministry as we faithfully follow God's call by evaluating what we have done and imagining what we might do to serve God's people locally and globally.

Children Youth and Families Committee

To provide opportunities for children, youth and their families to participate in the life of the United Parish, and to provide opportunities for the adults of the church to participate in the lives of the children and youth.

Christian Spiritual Formation Committee

To build a culture and environment that encourages the spiritual growth of everyone who walks through the doors of the United Parish.

Communications Committee

To inform and educate members and friends of the church as well as the larger community about the life and ministry of the United Parish.

Membership and Fellowship Committee

To provide congregational care and opportunities to connect among members and friends of the United Parish, and to facilitate an atmosphere that's welcoming to newcomers and appreciative of the people who give of themselves in ministry.

Ministry Support Committee

To manage facilities, finances and church records.

Mission and Service Committee

To provide opportunities for people to help others in need through hands-on service and giving to communities outside of the church: locally and globally.

Parish Board

To faithfully represent the practical needs and foster the spiritual growth of the congregation in its mission to serve Christ.

All of the committees will

  • Strive to live our mission statement within the committee, the church and the community.
  • Review functions and activities at least yearly and make changes as needed.
  • Provide regular reports to the Parish Board to include: goals, progress, what's going well, where and how support is needed.
  • Determine budget needs and how to distribute allocated funds among committee groups.
  • Inform the Communications Committee of plans and events to share with members and the community when appropriate.
  • Welcome people who feel called to contribute time and energy to the committee's ministry area.

More information about the committees can be found in the Summer 2010 newsletter, starting on page 4.
