Saturday, June 9, 2018
11:00 AM Walk
Followed By Block Party: food, games, a bounce house, face painting, crafts and more
We are hosting our 3rd annual UPB vs SMA fundraiser to benefit Cure SMA! This organization works to find a cure for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), the number one genetic killer of infants and children. With the tremendous support received at fundraisers throughout the country like UPB vs SMA fundraiser, the first drug, Spinraza, was approved by the FDA in December 2016.
Spinraza works to stop the progression of this devastating disease and may potentially improve strength. This drug has been life changing for those with SMA, especially for those children with Type 1. However, this is not a cure and there is still work to do! Cure SMA has been working to have SMA added nationally to the Newborn Screening Panel so that SMA affected newborns can be diagnosed and treated with Spinraza as soon as possible. Researchers are also working to find more treatment options and eventually, a cure. There are currently several more drugs in clinical development and one of them could be a cure.
